Message I knew this subject would start a $hit storm. To clear up a few things: In a BB turbo, deleting the water lines is a absolutely NOT a option, there is not enough oil flow through the bearings to cool them. I do not not argue that deleting the water lines does reduce the life span of the turbos. The oil temperature was measured at the oil return, via a screen sensor in line. To get the results. This is not the first garrett turbo that I have done this too, my other 2 TT's and my volvo, along with many other vehicles that I have worked on, have this modification. My volvo has 36,000 miles on the deleted water lines and 160,000 on the engine itself, I run it on 15 psi with boost jets since 100,000 miles. My previous TT had the delete for nearly 56,000 miles, the car is still running to my knowledge and owned by a 19 year old kid. From my experience a quality oil cooler, synthetic oil and a turbo timer must be used. And this has NOT yeilded good results on DSM 4 cylinders, possibly due to oil cooling designs and normally high EGT's. Haters are still welcome.
